What is 10% PEEK filled PTFE Tube?
10% Peek Filled PTFE tube is made of 10% PEEK powder blended with 90% PTFE. 10% Peek Filled PTFE tube offers the performance of standard unfilled PEEK, with the addition of PTFE, resulting in a very lower coefficient of friction. For wear applications requiring both high heat resistance and resistance to many acidic and alkaline solutions, this material is an excellent choice.
Other Grades of PEEK Filled PTFE
PE 9010 - 10% PEEK Filled PTFE
PE 9015 - 15% PEEK Filled PTFE
PE 9020 - 20% PEEK Filled PTFE
PE 9025 - 25% PEEK Filled PTFE
Applications of 10% PEEK filled PTFE Tube
With its unique combination of wear resistance, FDA compliance, UL94 V-0 flame rating and extremely low toxicity and smoke release, 10% Peek Filled PTFE tube is suitable for use in a myriad of applications including aerospace, aircraft, oil & gas extraction and processing, semiconductor fabrication and many more.
Additionally, this material is increasingly being used to replace component parts made of metals due to its light weight, fabrication ease, insulating properties and design freedom, which allows for part consolidation in many applications.
Coefficient of Friction of PEEK filled PTFE
PTFE has a lower coefficient of friction than PEEK, so it would be reasonable to assume that the value keeps increasing with the addition of more PEEK. However, it is surprising to note that the coefficient is lowest at 50% of PEEK which is at about 0.12
It is important to mention than even at its lowest, the coefficient of friction is still much higher than for pure virgin PTFE (between 0.03-0.05). However, from a design standpoint, it is useful to know that adding a very small amount of PEEK is not the key to keeping the overall coefficient of friction as low as possible.
Wear Resistance of PEEK filled PTFE
10% Peek Filled PTFE tube has better wear resistance, and the best performing blend is PTFE with 32% PEEK.
